The phoenix was originally mentioned in various texts of Greek culture and mythology. The writings of Hesiod and Herodotus in particular helped bring this mythological bird into the public’s consciousness. According to various accounts, the phoenix possesses special regenerative abilities. When it reaches old age, the creature suddenly bursts into flames only to be reborn out of the ashes. Today, the phoenix remains a popular symbol of renewal and resurrection.

For the obverse of 2022 South Korean Silver Phoenix Medals, a phoenix is depicted in flight. In this brand-new design, the phoenix faces right as it flies upward. This design gives us a great view of the bird’s majestic wings and dazzling tail feathers. The obverse also contains a latent security device that adjusts as you tilt the medal at different angles.

For the reverse of 2022 1 oz Silver Phoenix Medals, there is a version of the presidential seal. This image features a pair of phoenix birds surrounding the symbol of Yin and Yang. Inscriptions on the reverse read Republic of Korea, KOMSCO, 1 oz Fine Silver .999.
